Halina Spa + Medical Rejuvenation, is a history-rich Austin staple that was first established in 1970 by Halina Pradzynski (1923-2016). A Polish WWII survivor and skin visionary motivated to overcome all adversities through her passion for nourishing others. When Halina was 16 years old her home was invaded by Nazis soldiers. The invasion forced her, and her family to seek refuge in Warsaw. During her time in Warsaw Halina worked and fought in the Polish Underground Movement while focusing on her dermatology studies. By the age of 21, Halina was captured by Nazi soldiers. They took her to a war camp where she continued to answer her call of caring for others by tending to the wounded in a field hospital. Halina eventually escaped to Krakow, which was liberated by the Soviets in January 1945. She then returned to Poland to help rebuild and reestablish the first Polish Administration.
Halina continued to further her dermatology studies, and foster her passion for skin nourishment by attending medical school. After med school, she attended various dermatology, beauty, and holistic institutions throughout Europe. In 1969, Halina’s husband, a cosmetic chemist, got a job offer at the University of Texas at Austin, shortly after they embarked for the United States. Upon arrival, Halina set out to make her dreams come true. She established her first company in 1970, a scientific and holistic skincare salon that would eventually evolve into present-day Halina. At the time Texas’s salons only offered hair and nail services. Halina’s glamourous European skin care concepts were seen as foreign but never failed to draw in the curious women of Texas who craved revitalization through nourishing experiences.
In the end, Halina charmed and won the support of the Austin community. Now a history-rich, Austin staple, Halina has served the community for over 50 years, and counting! What once was a small spa in a small Texas town, has become a cutting-edge luxury Spa, in the financially booming city of Austin. Despite the change and evolution of Halina, this historical spa still remains true to Halina’s European holistic practices and embodies her caring nature with a sweet and dedicated staff of therapists, aestheticians, and technicians – who are all trained beyond industry standards to provide Austin residents with first-class personal care.
